Soar Above the Storm: Co-Creating Your Healing from Trauma

Updated: Feb 17

At Dynamic Counseling, we welcome the integration of faith and healing. This article highlights this integration by one of our therapists, Jeri Peterson, who offers Christian counseling in Colorado if the client requests.

When trauma hits, it often feels like we’re scrambling for shelter—fragile, overwhelmed, desperate for safety. But what if the storm itself could lift us higher?

The eagle doesn’t run from storms—it flies into them. Using the powerful updrafts, it soars above the turbulence into calm skies. That image offers us a blueprint for healing.

1. Perspective and Purpose

An eagle’s eyes hold dual vision: wide, panoramic perspective and razor-sharp focus. We need both.

Panoramic view: Step back—your struggle is only one chapter in a larger story.

Focused vision: Stay intentional with daily healing practices. Don’t let distractions pull you from your path.

2. Renewal Through Letting Go

Eagles molt, shedding old feathers so new ones can grow. Healing requires the same—releasing toxic thoughts, painful identities, and false narratives. Vulnerable, yes. But necessary for renewal.

3. Rewiring the Mind

Neuroscience confirms what Scripture has long taught: our minds can be renewed (Romans 12:2). Tools like Dr. Caroline Leaf’s Neurocycle show us how to dismantle trauma’s “toxic trees” and build new, life-giving thought patterns.

• Anchor truth with a simple object, like a stone.

• Speak affirmations and scripture over your fears.

• Align body and spirit—stand tall, lift your head high—as you declare new truths.

4. Co-Creating with God

We are created in the image of a God who spoke the world into being. Our words, too, carry power. Speaking biblical truth over our wounds is an act of co-creation—partnering with God to transform trauma into resilience.

As C.S. Lewis wrote, God is not just repairing a cottage; He is building a palace. His grace is the blueprint. Our daily choices are the bricks.

The Takeaway

You are not destined to live as a victim of your past. Like the eagle, you can rise—embracing the storm, shedding what no longer serves you, and soaring into new heights of freedom and peace.

Today’s invitation: Speak truth. Take one step. Trust the lift of the storm. You were made to soar.
